OTTUMWA — Bridge View Center and VenuWorks are welcoming two new faces to its management team — one native Ottumwan and one with previous experience in a VenuWorks facility.
Matt Dowling has been named Bridge View Center's director of operations. He began his duties on Jan. 28. His responsibilities will be for all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, custodial, event conversion, audio-visual and groundskeeping for Bridge View Center.
Dowling joins Bridge View Center following a nine-year career with the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority. There, he oversaw the operations of the 750,000-square-foot Convention Center and assisted with the safety and security of the National Bowling Stadium, event center, livestock event center and golf course. He also served as director of operations for the Irving (Texas) Convention Center at Las Colinas and the Hurst (Texas) Conference Center while it was managed by VenuWorks.
“Having Matt become a member of our management team at Bridge View Center was worth the wait,” said Larry Gawronski, Bridge View Center executive director. “He is extremely qualified, has a vast amount of experience and knows the VenuWorks system. This gives him a distinct advantage.”
While Dowling will be working mostly behind the scenes, getting to know the community and giving it the best experience possible at Bridge View is the ultimate goal.
"We're in the business of creating memories," he said. "Every single event here has the power to affect lives. We want everyone to look back and say they had a really great time."
Kurtis Workman joins the Bridge View Center as the sales and marketing manager. His duties began on Dec. 10. Workman will be responsible for planning and implementing all sales and marketing activities along with assisting in the development of sales policies and marketing initiatives to promote a positive image for the Bridge View Center.
He comes to Bridge View Center with experience in sales, marketing and special event planning. Most recently, he was employed at the Ottumwa Courier as classified advertising manager and an outside marketing and sales consultant. Workman also has experience working in advertising, marketing and media coordination in promotions of monster truck and arena cross events.
Being a native Ottumwan gives him an opportunity to really put his hometown in the spotlight.
"As the local guy, I can share what works in the community," Workman explained. "My knowledge is in the area and (I can) bring my contacts to Bridge View, so it's easy for me to step in and adapt to a new environment."
These skill sets are something Gawronski is excited to put to good use.
“We are pleased to welcome Kurt to our team at Bridge View Center,” said Gawronski. "He has many personal and professional relationships that he can maximize in his new position. I expect very positive results from his joining the team.”
