Simon Estes brings 'Roots and 'Wings' tour to Iowa

KNOXVILLE — The Knoxville Community School District is pleased to present the next special concert event to open and support its new Performing Arts Center.

Internationally renowned opera star and Iowa native Simon Estes brings his “Roots and Wings” concert to Knoxville at 2 p.m. Dec. 1 as part of his tour of Iowa’s 99 counties.

"Roots and Wings" celebrates Simon Estes’ connection to Iowa as a native son (the roots), provides college scholarships for Iowa high school students and offers performance experience to aspiring young artists through the Simon Estes Foundation (the wings). Estes will be performing familiar selections from Broadway and opera as well as inspirational songs and spirituals. He will also perform with Knoxville middle and high school students, an especially unique learning experience for them.

In Knoxville, tickets are on sale at The Next Chapter and Iowa State Savings Bank. Reserved tickets are $50 & $35. General admission and handicapped-accessible tickets are $25 with student tickets at $10. Tickets can also be purchased online at:

This special concert event also provides a great opportunity for people to close out their Thanksgiving holiday weekend in Knoxville and be entertained by one of the world’s foremost opera stars. Proceeds from the concert will help provide a spring board for the Performing Arts Center to host an annual concert series that will continue entertaining our community and educating our youth.

For more information, call Megan Phillips at 641-842-3315.

For more information about this special concert, look in this Friday's TV and Entertainment section of the Courier. There will be biographies of the local teachers participating and photos of the performing arts center.
