Romance novelist Leigh Michaels of Ottumwa will sign copies of her newest books, “The Birthday Scandal” and “Return to Amberley” at The Little Bake Shop, 201 E. Second St., from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
A six-time finalist in the Romance Writers of America RITA contest for best romance novel, Michaels is the author of 85 contemporary and historical romance novels published in 120 countries and 25 languages, with more than 35 million copies in print. Michaels writes both historical and contemporary romance novels, and this signing features one of each.
“The Birthday Scandal” is a historical romance set in England in 1816. When two sisters and a brother are invited to their great-uncle’s 70th birthday party, he tells them that he plans to make their lives easier. Though the siblings hope for cash, the payoff for each is a happy-ever-after ending, with Michaels weaving together six main characters and three stories.
The Regency period (1811-20) has long been an interest for Michaels, and London has been a favorite travel destination, so it was a natural choice to set her books in that era and location, featuring the upper-class English aristocracy. “The Birthday Scandal” is published by Montlake Romance.
In “Return to Amberley,” a romance novel set in the present day, Andie Haywood fled Minnesota when it became clear that her marriage was doomed. But just a few months later her husband walks back into her life, asking her to come back – to their home and their marriage – long enough to sell the stone quarry they jointly inherited.
