OTTUMWA — Ottumwa Community Players will kick off their 2013 season with the Mel Brooks musical, “The Producers.”

Performances will be in the Bridge View Center theater at 7 p.m. Feb. 22-23 and 2 p.m. Feb. 24.

“Our cast is one of the finest that Ottumwa Community Players has ever assembled. And when you combine them with an incredible score and very funny script, it’s a match made in comedy heaven,” said Director Jeff Leonard.

Based on the 1968 film of the same name as well as the 12-time Tony Award Broadway musical, this Mel Brooks masterpiece chronicles the hilarious adventures of washed-up Broadway producer Max Bialystock and his mild-mannered accountant Leo Bloom, as they scheme to get rich quick by producing the most notorious flop in the history of showbiz. What they don’t know is that after all their hard work, the musical ends up being a smash hit. It’s a comic tour-de-force that spoofs the big, old-fashioned Broadway musical while paying tribute to it at the same time. The classic score contains such gems as “I Wanna Be A Producer,” “When You Got It, Flaunt It,” “Springtime for Hitler,” and “Prisoners of Love.”

“The Producers” contains some adult content and humor. Parental guidance is suggested.

Cast members include: Kyle Roemerman as Max; Larry Gawronski as Leo; Kami Millikin at Ulla; Mason Ferguson as Franz; Jim Clingman as Roger; and Duane Cowger as Carmen.

Other cast members include: Constance Miller, Megan Bell, Kari Roemerman, Elizabeth Kimmel, Tabatha Roberts, Madalyn McKelvey, Emily Bitner, Roxanne Cagwin, Dennis Durst, Lloyd Keith, Leah Morrissey, Edward Bartow, Tyler Breeding, Bill Allen, Merrie Lawson-Smith, Kitt Linville, Marlyn Copeland, Angie Holland, Jennifer Boyenga, Barb Kiple, Abby Logan, Alice Richardson, Konnie Milder, Pam DeBoer, Terri Williams, Dennis “Chic” Worth, Hans Wilz and Schuyler Black.

Along with Jeff Leonard as director, other members of the creative team include Sally Sharp, choreographer; Michael Philipson, musical director; Merrie Lawson-Smith, costume designer; Angela Sanford-Leonard, assistant director; Bill Bowman, production manager/second assistant director; and Jesse Heady, set design.
