Florida Georgia Line set to play to sold-out crowd

Country-rock duo to take Bridge View stage Saturday

OTTUMWA — Country duo Florida Georgia Line’s first performance at the Bridge View Center will be in front of a sold-out crowd.

Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley will bring their country-rock mix of music to Bridge View at 8 p.m. Saturday. The excitement of playing in front of a packed theater makes it all the better.

“It’s awesome every time we play for a crowd like that,” Kelley said during a recent interview with the Courier. “Hopefully it’s becoming a regular thing.

Florida Georgia Line’s Top 25 single, “Cruise,” has already sold more than 400,000 copies. It’s currently being played on radio stations across the country, as well as on satellite radio and the Internet. They’ll also be on the annual “CMT ON TOUR” that kicks off Oct. 10.

Their current tour is something special, though, as they travel nationwide sharing their love of music.

“We’re going to places we’ve never been, seeing new faces, new places,” Kelley said. “We want to go everywhere, see everything, make as many fans and friends as we can and make it one big party.”

Kelley and Hubbard met while attending Nashville’s Belmont University, where they played local clubs and wrote songs between classes. Their musical influences range from Jason Aldean and Eric Church to Alabama and Lynryd Skynyrd to Lil’ Wayne and Wiz Khalifa. This variety of interests combines smoothly in the group’s live performances.

“We have some of the same influences, and they’re very diverse,” Hubbard said. “When we write and put on shows, those influences come out in a way that makes it really special and unique.”

This exciting new sound in country music is giving the duo motivation to make every live performance something electrifying.

“We just want to give 110 percent, leave sweaty, be hoarse and just make it one big party,” Kelley said.

“We try to leave everybody with a memory that they’ll always have,” Hubbard added. “It’ll be something to talk about, tell their friends about. They’ll leave changed and be ready to spread the word about Florida Georgia Line.”
