Ottumwa police officers and Wapello County Sheriff's deputies responded to an alley north of homes in the 700 block of East Mary Street just before 11 p.m. Thursday after reports of an altercation that may have involved a firearm. Neighbors said they heard an argument that escalated into a fight before what sounded like a shot. A female in her early-to-mid-20s was taken into custody during the investigation, though her name was not released and it was not clear whether she was charged with anything.
