On Nov. 4, two meditators, running as Democrats for Jefferson County Board of Supervisors, hope to be elected and make decisions affecting the future of Jefferson County. Neither has Jefferson County roots or even Iowa roots. One is from California where he ran as a Natural Law Party candidate and the other from Mississippi. Neither is well known outside campus circles. Neither man has lived in Jefferson County long enough to make knowledgeable and appropriate decisions in behalf of all residents of Jefferson County.
If Democrats vote a straight Democratic ticket, or not vote for a supervisor at all, it is likely to assure the election of two meditators who know little about our county. I don’t think this is what the majority of the residents of Jefferson County want to happen. Don’t make the same mistake twice — if the majority of the voting residents of Jefferson County had voted in the primary, the names of two “unknowns” would not be on the ballot, anyway.
Be sure you know who you are voting for before you mark your ballot. This is likely to be a close race because the meditating community will be out in full strength.
I do not wish to offend my close neighbors who are meditators. I consider them my friends. They have lived in Jefferson County several years, and I believe they plan to live here for many years to come. I feel they should be just as concerned as I about voting for individuals who cannot possibly make informed decisions for all residents of Jefferson County.
