The other side
to foster care

Ottumwa Courier

---- — Thank you for your recent story on foster care.

I am a former foster child that was in the system for 20 years and in my experience, foster care has two sides. There is the side you portrayed, but the other side if not a bed of roses.

I lived in five different foster homes, and only one of them was good to me. Through the 20 years of foster care, I have had my nose broken and was abused.

I think the whole system needs some work done. I was taken away from my parents because of a genetic illness that does not allow me to gain weight.

In my opinion, the state should keep siblings together. I have five sisters and four brothers, and I only know one of them.

I was born as Junior Coram and would like my siblings back.
