Many people have heard or read about a sixth-grader at Evans being busted with drugs. While this was an unfortunate event, it overshadows all of the great students, staff and many programs at Evans Middle School.
There are many wonderful opportunities for students at Evans including: student council, band, orchestra, drama, art club, choir, sports, mock trial, TAG, math bee and GREAT (Gang Resistance Education and Training).
Student council is a chance for students to become leaders and help create a fun environment at school. Each year student council members host Fire and Ice in cooperation with our local firefighters to raise money for smoke detectors.
TAG is a talented and gifted program which offers students many problem-solving activities such as History Day, Lego League, Future Cities, Odyssey of the Mind and Kid Wind. Students learn to work as a team and communicate their problem-solving skills to an audience.
The winter and spring season bring music to life with band and choir concerts and a theater production that allow students to perform in front of an audience as well. Many students choose to participate in these fine arts programs offered by Evans staff.
Instead of Evans being looked upon as a “bad” school with drugs and fights, please remember there are many amazing students and staff members that care about our school and work hard each day. As Mr. Harper says, “Let’s make Evans the best school in the universe!”
