In recent light of the contract situation that has occurred between Southern Iowa Transit and the bus drivers, I thought it was important to weigh in on the subject from a parent’s perspective. My wife and I have three children who depend on the bus to get them to and from school. As parents, it is difficult to entrust your most prized possession (our children) to “anyone” other than ourselves or family. I can honestly say that we feel very secure and thankful for the bus drivers that ensure the safety of our children when they are away from home. Our children have developed a unique relationship with their bus driver “Mike." He is not just their bus driver; he is also their friend and protector. He greets them in the morning and wishes them a great day. I know that contract negotiations are sometimes difficult and complicated; however, I know that I could never put a price on my feeling of security knowing that my children are in the hands of dedicated and caring people. I would only hope that no one else would “de-value” the worth of my children in an effort to increase their profit margin. We would like to thank them for their dedication and service.
