Recently, I was pulled over to the side of the road waiting for a funeral procession to pass, and I was deeply saddened by others' total lack of respect for the family of the deceased. I was taught by my parents that no matter what, I was to pull over and show respect for the family of the fallen. I am saddened that more people haven't learned or been taught this form of respect. I have taught my kids that it is only a few moments of their time and even if you are running behind, it is still not OK to pass them or drive along and ignore them.
I read somewhere that it was a last respect to the deceased, but I feel it is more of a respect to the grieving family. As my grandpa used to say, "If you are in that big of a hurry, you should have left 20 minutes ago." It really is a huge disrespect to not pull over and wait as they pass. So please, next time you come upon a funeral procession, take a moment to pull over and maybe say a little prayer for the family. Just show a little respect.
Thanks to all of you who do.
