Support Matt Dalbey

Ottumwa Courier

---- — When I learned that Matt Dalbey was running for City Council I was thrilled. I know what a hard worker he is and how committed he is when he takes on any task. I’ve worked on several projects with Matt and have been impressed by the qualities he brings to each challenge. Not only does he do the work, but he does it better than most anyone I’ve been involved with. He’s highly organized and listens to, and considers, all sides of an issue.

Matt and his wife Melanie and 4-year-old son Spencer are lifelong residents of Ottumwa. Melanie is an Ottumwa teacher and Matt has been employed for 16 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works as a manual arc welder. They are committed to this community and want to raise their family here.

Matt believes one of Ottumwa’s biggest problems is a lack of “livable wage” jobs. He believes we have to do the things in the community that make it more inviting to businesses that employ a large number of people and pay a “livable wage.” He knows that when that happens, that money stays here in our community and those employees are not only able to pay their bills and taxes, but are able to adequately provide for their families. Those jobs help broaden Ottumwa’s tax base. That makes it easier to maintain the current level of services provided by the city. He feels it is crucial to preserve the full-time essential public safety services, including police, fire and emergency services.

He is especially concerned about protecting seniors on fixed incomes when considering the city budget and property tax policies. He believes that local elected officials should work as a team and that all citizens’ concerns should be listened to and considered before making decisions.

Matt will make an excellent city council member. He has my full support, and I hope he will have yours.
