A teachable moment

Matt Brindley’s “Banning the bafflegab” was, like, hilarious, basically. Write on! I mean, at the end of the day, you’ll come up with many of your own but let’s not, like, have too much on our plate.

I got to thinking about words and what we do with them. Yes, I’d like to share something with you. For example:

• A secretary is now an administrative assistant;

• A waitress becomes a server;

• A salesperson is an associate;

And the customer is now a guest. Used cars or furniture are pre-owned, while used clothing is vintage, gently worn. Handwriting is now “cursive,” but nobody learns it anymore. You can’t read it, and you don’t need to write it.

Now let’s get out of our comfort zone. Right is always right; wrong is always wrong. We need to stop playing with words. Even the Supreme Court can learn from this teachable moment. Let’s look at the Good Book and the Good Lord who wrote it. He is Supreme, wise and loving in all His doings. Look at His words of truth and righteousness in Romans 1:24-28:

“Wherefore God gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves ... who changed the truth of God into a lie ... for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature ... and likewise the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly ... and did not like to retain God in their knowledge ...”

May we not become a Biblically illiterate society. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. He is Supreme; He is the way, the truth and the life.

Run it up the flagpole and see who salutes.

Marian P. Watt
