Make our schools safe for our children

submitted

OTTUMWA — As you are aware of the tragedy that took place in the school in Connecticut, it bothers me that our schools are not safe at all. You could just walk right in, and nobody would even notice. We should have locks on school doors, be buzzed in, show an ID and have a purpose for entering the school.

The same at the movie theaters. You can’t even enjoy because you don’t know what people are capable of anymore.

Tragedy can strike anytime, anywhere. Let’s be prepared, take precautions, help to keep our children safe. Lock the school doors or make them electronic or have security at the doors to greet and check IDs or metal detectors, something. It’s just sad to see and hear these things and I don’t want it to happen here in our community.

Thank you,

Martin Hager
