Prayer and allegiance to the flag are the keys

OTTUMWA — I just could not let this opportunity go by without making my comments on the recent letter to the editor by Annette Collins.

She hit the nail right on the head. I came up through a school system where each morning (and I might add the very first thing) our teachers would lead the class in prayer and pledging our allegiance to the great flag of our nation. Why is it so wrong to honor our God and our nation? This is where we Americans have gone down the wrong road just because a few people do not believe in God and honoring our great flag. Which, by the way, many men and women have fought, bled and died for, serving our nation to keep it free. And what have we citizens and Christians done but just stand by and let others belittle our beloved God and nation. We Americans need to stand up for our freedoms.

If we don’t stand up for what we believe in, then they will bury us as once was stated.

America is still the best nation in the world to live in. As of yet, we still have our freedoms (or at least most of them), so let us voice our opinions. But I wonder for how much longer. Let us make a stand for our great nation and, above all, God. Let’s get prayer and pledging the allegiance to our great flag back into our schools. Again, I ask what is wrong with that?

I, for one, stand up for God and our great nation.
