Romney and Ryan need to stop the lies

RUSSELL — So many lies, so little time. Probably the lie that bothers me the most is the Romney lie about President Obama’s supposed cuts to Medicare. Fact: President Obama did not cut Medicare benefits in any way. He actually added at least three new benefits. President Obama closed the doughnut hole in the prescription drug benefit and added free wellness check-ups and free cancer screenings. These new benefits will save seniors hundreds of dollars a year.

What about the $716 billion Romney and Ryan keep talking about? Did President Obama cut that amount from the Medicare budget? Yes, he did. President Obama was able to reduce the Medicare budget by that amount by eliminating overpayments to insurance companies and health providers.

There are no cuts in benefits. Benefits are extended. President Obama did not rob Medicare to help pay for Obamacare. These are blatant lies. Maybe they are telling such whoppers to distract us from their own draconian plan to turn Medicare into a voucher system. Oh, I forgot; now they say they never talked about a voucher system for Medicare. Fact is, the voucher plan was clearly spelled out in the Ryan budget plan that Romney said he thought was wonderful, but these are just facts, and we shouldn’t let facts interfere with political spin.

I know all politicians shade things and exaggerate their own good deeds. I do not think most politicians lie so effortlessly and with as much sincerity as Romney and Ryan. It is way past time to call them out on their unbelievable mendacity.
