Supporting Coram for school board

Ottumwa Courier

---- — Local citizens will have the opportunity to elect Dr. Charles Coram to our school board on Sept. 10. We have known Dr. Coram quite well for a several years. He is a very caring individual with lots of great insights into the educational field in particular.

Dr. Coram has a wife, Brenda, and three school-aged children: a son, Addison, and two daughters, Mercedes and Olivia. He has a doctor of chiropractic medicine and B.S. in general science from Palmer College, a B.A. in psychology and secondary education from Buena Vista University and an associate of applied science (R.N.) from Scott Community College.

One reason Charles believes that education is the foundational pathway to opportunity for our young people is because he has personally lived it. He was born and raised here in Iowa and says he owes much his success to great teachers and coaches he’s had throughout the years. Education helped direct him from his early years of poverty and dysfunction to a college diploma, then on to a doctorate, and now the experience of a successful career. It’s very obvious he wants every child in Ottumwa to have the opportunity to achieve his or her full potential.

In my view, Charles Coram also has the expertise. He has over 20 years of experience in public service, as a nurse and a physician. He has experience in making the tough decisions. He has had a great deal of experience bringing people together to find consensus and practical solutions to problems. Also, he has the courage to challenge other leaders within the community. To top it off, he is very down to earth and quite simply an exceptionally polite and nice guy.

My family believes that Dr. Coram would work tirelessly to make sure children in our local school system get the skills they need for their educational experience in Ottumwa. Join us in voting on Sept. 10 for Dr. Charles Coram.
