Editor’s note: The Courier’s original story about the 833rd being deployed with sendoff ceremony information was the banner story on Page 1 in the Saturday, Jan. 19 edition. A second story about the 833rd was published on Page 1 in the Wednesday, Jan. 23 edition, also containing information about the sendoff ceremony. The third reminder about the sendoff event was published on Page A8 in the Monday, Jan. 28 edition, but it was referred to on Page 1 accompanied by an American flag in the skybox.
Thank you for the coverage of the 833rd National Guard Unit in Tuesday’s paper.
Also, I want to say how proud I am of them. My husband and I were among a lot of people from Ottumwa and many other counties in Iowa to tell them we are behind them and waiting for them to get their job done and come back safe and sound.
But the Ottumwa Courier should be ashamed. You only gave a 3 by 6 article on page 8 in Monday’s paper telling people of the sendoff. You must have felt that the “culinary event” was more important than our military who will be putting their lives in danger for our FREEDOM everyday. The front page was covered with LESS important things as far as I’m concerned.
This is not how we should treat our 833rd; some of these men have deployed before and some of them it is their first time, so come on Ottumwa Courier and community and get behind our men and keep them in your prayers. They need to know we are there for them and their families.
God Bless America. I am free because of the military.
