I wonder if people realize that here in Iowa, unlike in Washington, we not only have a balanced state budget but also almost $1 billion in savings. Two years ago, state Rep. Mary Gaskill helped craft a government reorganization that saved the state over $100 million. It did so by eliminating many costly but unnecessary programs and boards, found ways to consolidate some services and eliminated manager positions in order to keep front-line workers in their jobs. One of architects of these savings was Rep. Gaskill, who handled one of the many subcommittees that developed this reorganization. She worked with Democrats and Republicans to make this happen. This is one reason I am voting for Rep. Gaskill on Nov. 6. I hope you will also.
