Turn your ballot over and vote for LOST

OTTUMWA — When you head to the polls to vote on Nov. 6, please remember to turn your ballet over and vote YES for the continuation of the local option sales tax.  It is my understanding it will be the last item on the back of the ballot.

The one-cent sales tax is a unique tax in that it allows the city of Ottumwa to collect a user tax from people that do not live in our community. We are currently depending on this revenue to rebuild our infrastructure, such as sewers and streets.

The sewer separation is required by the DNR and must be done whether the local option sales tax passes or not. If this is not passed on Election Day, one thing is for certain — your sewer rates will increase dramatically. Let’s let visitors that are enjoying our fine city help to pay for the infrastructure that is needed to retain existing businesses and bring new business to our area.

Ottumwa is on a roll with positive things happening daily! Please, everyone, get out and vote for your preferred candidates, and remember to turn your ballot over and vote YES for the local option sales tax.
