Government failing the people

Ottumwa Courier

---- — It is time that this nation declared another Declaration of Independence from the dependence that this nation has for its insatiable appetite for Mideast foreign oil and the folly, chaos and turmoil that comes with it. Often times this oil is funding extremist networks that are not satisfied to peacefully coexist with those that they consider to be infidels.

The vast majority of Muslims do not subscribe to this philosophy, they just have not been very vocal just as the vast majority of Germans did not subscribe to Hitler's insanity, but instead remained silent, paving the way for some of the most monstrous acts against humanity ever committed.

The United Nations was formed with the intentions to be an international guardian of freedom that would not allow humanitarian atrocities. Today the United Nations has become so bogged down in politics that it has done virtually nothing to stop the atrocities it was formed to prevent.

Now the emotions of the Syrian challenge are being played and dumped into the lives of the American citizens. We are again being subjected to a quick, easy type salesmanship by politicians who again say something, usually accomplishing nothing, therefore creating more questions than answers, that leads to meaningless, incompetent, unaccountable exercises that create a domino type effect of more humiliation, retaliation, instability, terrorism and threats of nuclear conflagration with the end result of more loss of life.

We the citizens of a nation founded of the people, by the people, for the people know that expedient politically biased fixes, without giving any regard for their thoughts and concerns, leads to the same problem that many of these nations are facing today — tyranny!

When some of our elected officials tell us that they know what is best for you people, then it is past time for change, no matter what side of the aisle that they say that they sit on, in Washington, D.C.
