OTTUMWA — Winger Contracting of Ottumwa wants to expand and the City Council will consider the company’s Ottumwa Enterprise Zone application during Tuesday’s meeting.
Planning Director Dave Shafer said the development will be located on a parcel of .68 acres between the levee and multiple small lots in the 900 block of Hayne Street.
The developer will construct a steel fabrication facility measuring 15,000 square feet and create 24 new jobs in Ottumwa.
Shafer said the proposed resolution will endorse Winger’s application.
The council will also consider:
• A contract between the city and Ottumwa Housing Authority to have a police officer assigned to the housing authority.
• Re-bidding the Building No. 23 hangar door project and the hangar electrical project, both at Ottumwa Airport.
• Approving recommendations from the Ottumwa Public Safety Advisory Board.
Also on the agenda are four public hearings concerning asphalt street repair, catch basin replacement, sanitary utility access and street crack repairs.
Three agenda items pertain to establishing fees for electrical permits, electrician licenses and tests in the city; plumbing permits, licenses and tests in the city; and heating, venting and air condition permits, licenses and fees.
The council will also consider:
• Awarding the contract for installing the Ottumwa Welcome Sign, which will be at the southwest quadrant of the Albia Road and U.S. Highway 34 intersection.
• Approving the second reading of the sexual orientation ordinance.
Before the council meeting begins, members will convene as Ottumwa Board of Health. They will consider authorizing the board chairman to sign paperwork for the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program grant application.
