School board works through cost concerns of new school

By LEAH HOWK Courier correspondent

• What will happen to vocational agriculture and transportation? Miller said the final decision about the high school facility will drive a decision for those two departments.

Turner said he believed he represented the majority of Davis County residents: “I think a lot of people feel it was voted down, so it shouldn’t be passed.”

With board approval, the next step is to advertise for bids for the project.

Lynch asked for confirmation that “the bids will determine the cost of the project,” to which Miller answered, “If they are over $9.7 million, we do not have a project.” Board secretary Betsy Bassett explained in a follow-up discussion that the first bids solicited are for construction and are due to and will be opened by the board on June 2. If those bids are at or below budget another meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. June 4 for the board to consider and accept bond bids. However, if the construction bids are higher than the budget, the process stops.
