Man charged with arson fails to get bond reduced

— Matt Milner, staff writer

FAIRFIELD — Charles Matson’s bid to have his bond reduced fell short after a judge decided to keep it at $25,000 cash only.

Matson, 50, of rural Jefferson County, is charged with first-degree arson after he allegedly burned the barn on his property earlier this month after authorities searched and found evidence he was manufacturing methamphetamine. Additional charges are possible, but had not been filed as of Monday morning.

The charge is a Class B felony and carries up to 25 years in prison.
