Officials not releasing information on possible shooting incident

— Mark Newman, Staff writer

BLAKESBURG — Information about an incident involving police, the sheriff’s department and a hearse is not being released.

At approximately 8:15 p.m. Friday, scanner traffic indicated a possible shooting at 18281 30th St. in Blakesburg. At least three Iowa State Patrol cruisers and a Wapello County Sheriff’s Department vehicle arrived at the farmhouse. At around 9:30 p.m., the Wapello County Medical Examiner arrived, followed half-an-hour later by a hearse.

While a trooper did say there was “a lot going on,” they would not, at that time, reveal to the public what had happened.

However, a dispatcher at the Wapello County Sheriff’s department was able to offer reassurance that the public was not in danger in relation to the incident .

The hearse left the Blakesburg property at about 10:30 p.m.
