BLOOMFIELD — The Davis County Fair Board has declared the fair theme as “This One’s for Ewe,” and they’re not sheepish about it, either.

Fair Board Secretary Marcella Thompson said Wednesday there will be plenty of sheep activities at the Davis County Fair, which will open Tuesday, July 7, and finish on Sunday, July 12.

“To go with our theme, we’ll have the largest ram on display in the sheep barn during the fair,” she said. “The prize is $500 so that should encourage people to do this.”

Additional activities will include sheep dog trials, a sheep-shearing contest and a wool-spinning demonstration.

The top grandstand entertainment will be Jamey Johnson, who was nominated for five Grammys this year, Thompson said. He’s the co-writer of “Give It Away,” the CMA and ACM 2007 Song of the Year, which George Strait recorded.

Johnson will perform at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Thompson said tickets are still available by ordering online at www.daviscountyfair.org or by getting general admission tickets at the door.

Tuesday will be opening night at the fair and will feature the Davis County Fair Queen Contest and the harness races.

The Twin States Truck & Tractor Pull will keep the grandstand busy Wednesday night. Pullers from Illinois, Missouri and Iowa will compete in six classes of tractors and three classes of trucks.

Car races will have center stage Thursday. Competitors will include USRA Modifieds, USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars, USRA Karl Chevrolet B-Mods, USRA Hobby Stocks and 305 Winged Sprints.

Friday night’s grandstand show will be the Imperial Stunt Drivers, and the all-new 425hp Dodge Charger SRTS will be the vehicle of choice this year.

“The stunt drivers are disbanding after this year,” Thompson said. “They’re the last thrill show company there is, and they won’t be available any more.”

There will be plenty of crashing, bashing and mud flinging Sunday night in the grandstand during the Demolition Derby. Competitors from three states have signed up for the action.

One of the free shows will be “Johnny Peers and the Muttville Comix.” A 1970 graduate of the Ringling Clown College, Peers uses a Charlie Chaplin-like character.

The Davis County Fair will also offer a free gate and free parking.
