BLOOMFIELD — The Davis County Fair will have several new events this year, as well as all their traditional activities from July 8-13.
“This year we have added the ‘kiss the pig contest.’ We have 12 people signed up to do it. It is to raise money for our food area. The person that raises most money has to kiss the pig. People can just put money in a jar for who they want to kiss the pig,” said Davis County Fair Board Secretary Marcella Thompson.
Some of the participants include state Rep. Kurt Swaim, Davis County High School Athletic Director Leon Vogel, Davis County Hospital Administrator Deb Hersberg and Davis County Supervisor Steve Evans.
“We are also having a lumberjack show this year,” Thompson said.
She said participants will have events where they have to haul water and roll logs and use chain saws.
“Part of it is a kid participation show,” she added.
Thompson said they have added several free contests and events for both children and adults.
“We are having a cookie stacking contest for kids one day and hot dog eating contest for kids and adults,” she said.
They will have a “Gallon Challenge,” where the contestants will have a minute to drink as much of a gallon of milk as they can.
Thursday is the pie baking contest.
“We have three divisions,” she said, and then they will have an auction at noon for the pies and cakes.
The fair will hold races on Thursday and Friday. The sprint cars will be on Thursday. The tractor pull will be Saturday night. Tuesday night is the Queen Contest.
“We are also having on Tuesday a twilight horse race at 6 p.m.,” Thompson said.
Plus there will be all kinds of 4-H livestock shows to watch.
“The 4-H Expo is in with the fair,” she said. “There are a lot of livestock shows and exhibits. Also, we have arts and crafts exhibits. We have lots of exhibitors this year.”
