SIGOURNEY — The Keokuk County Expo promises a good time with many traditional events as well as some new features.
That includes a hypnotist on Friday night.
“We had one come last year and it seemed to go over pretty well,” Morse said. “That is for anyone and it is a free show.”
Admission on Saturday is free for children, 13 and under, $6 for adults, and free for any 4-H or FFA teenager wearing their 4-H and FFA T-shirts that night (if they are an active member).
A new event that night will be the two-man cruiser in the Figure 8 races.
“One person does the steering and the other does the foot pedals,” Morse said. “But that is part of our entertainment. It’s not really something people will participate in; it’s more of a spectator thing.”
One other new addition is the quilting contest.
“This year we also had a contest where we had people make a quilt block that will be judged at the expo. A prize will be given for the best one, and then during the course of the year, we are going to have someone sew all the blocks together and make one big quilt, and then we are going to auction it off at next year’s expo,” Morse said.
Throughout the week, there will be 4-H and commercial exhibits, livestock exhibits and shows, inflatable rides and much more.
“It’s just an average-size county expo,” Morse said. “It’s more for the promotion of 4-H and FFA.
“It gives kids the experience of competition. They get to take part in livestock shows, open shows and project exhibits,” Morse said. “There are all types of projects — woodworking, sewing, livestock, crafts and a lot more to see there.”
“We just want people to come out and have a good time.”
Parking and admission to the expo are free.
