Prison terms vary for defendants sentenced for conspiracy to distribute meth
By Matt Milner, Courier staff writer
OTTUMWA — Three defendants have been sentenced for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in the Ottumwa area.
Federal prosecutors announced the sentencings Tuesday, though they actually took place last Friday. The sentences for Catalina Irma Ramirez, 43, Joeray Trevino, 44, and Armenio Ramirez Dominguez-Marroquinn, 18, follow an earlier sentencing for a fourth conspirator, Duglas Ramirez-Dominguez, 30.
The prison terms vary. Ramirez will spend five years and seven months in federal prison. Dominguez-Marroquinn received three years and 10 months in prison.
The longest sentences handed down were against Trevino, who received 10 years and 10 months, and Ramirez-Dominguez, whose earlier sentence was for seven years and six months.
All of the sentences included three to five years of supervised release upon release from prison.
The defendants each pleaded guilty to conspiracy in September 2007. They admitted as part of those pleas that they obtained the methamphetamine in Arkansas and brought it to Iowa, where they assisted in distribution.
