Bridge replica to be dedicated during Delta Days

Original bridge destroyed by arson in September 2003

By SCOTT NILES Courier staff writer

There will also be a scavenger hunt. Participants can pick up lists between 8-9 a.m. Saturday in front of the Delta Grocery Store. Sheets must be turned in by 5 p.m.

An Ugly Truck Contest will be held along U.S. Highway 21 on the east side of the street. Trucks must be in place by 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The winning truck will be in the parade.

The pet and doll parade will be at 9:45 a.m. Saturday and the main parade, “Bridging Together,” will follow at 10 a.m. All entries will receive a ribbon. For parade information, call June Rice at (641) 624-2077.

There will also be a tractor pull Saturday. Beginning at noon, a professional company featuring hot rod tractors will be on display. There will be different classes for garden tractors and four-wheelers that locals can participate in.

“Anyone can bring their tractors and four-wheelers and join in,” Shipley said. “Immediately following we will have our truck pull, too.”

Following the truck pull will be chicken Bingo and gas card drawings. At 1 p.m. the “Tolson Band” will perform in the gymnasium with special guest, Rick Lowe. There will be kids games beginning at 2 p.m.

All activities are sponsored by the Delta Town & Country Center and Delta Ruritan Club.

“We hope we have a lot of out of towners. It is open to anyone. The more the merrier,” Shipley said.

Scott Niles can be reached at (641) 683-5360 or via e-mail at sjniles@mchsi.com.
