Altercation ends with marijuana arrests

OTTUMWA ’ Police have announced that an altercation on Thursday that led to reports of shots being fired in Ottumwa has resulted in two arrests.

Officers were called to the 700 block of East Mary Street just before 11 p.m. Thursday after neighbors reported hearing shots fired. The investigation led quickly to the arrest of Kandie K. Christy, 729 E. Mary Street, for interference with official acts. Officers then tried to search the residence based on the report of a suspect armed with a handgun.

When authorities entered the house they found what appeared to be marijuana. The officers obtained a search warrant and the resulting search found three pounds of marijuana, scales and a small amount of money.

Conspiracy to deliver less than 50kg of marijuana and failure to affix a drug tax stamp, both Class D felonies, were added to Christy's charges. Police also arrested Vance E. Ellis, 616’ E. Main Street, on identical charges.

Christy and Ellis remain in the Wapello County Jail on $5,000 bail. The investigation is continuing and additional charges are expected.
