Former Ottumwan faces murder charges
By PAT SHAVER, Courier staff writer
OTTUMWA — A former Ottumwan has been charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and attempted murder after a shooting and standoff with police in Des Moines this week.
Randall Moore, a 1989 Ottumwa High School graduate, allegedly shot and killed his estranged wife and injured a Des Moines police officer Wednesday evening.
Tereseann Moore, 30, who was living in Urbandale, was an Iowa National Guard veteran who had served three tours in the Middle East.
The couple had a young child, who was at a day care center at the time of the shootings, according to The Associated Press.
Court records indicate Randall Moore was convicted of assault in 1999, 2002 and 2006, and received a 30-day suspended jail sentence and one year’s probation for third-degree harassment in 2000. Court records also disclose that Moore has been accused of domestic abuse in civil lawsuits four times by four different women since 2005 and had a protective order issued against him that expired Oct. 26, according to The Associated Press.
Family members of Moore’s who live in Ottumwa did not want to comment on the incident Thursday afternoon.
Dave Johnson, of Ottumwa, who graduated with Moore, said he wasn’t good friends with Moore, but recently saw him at their 20-year high school reunion.
Johnson said he was shocked by the killing, but wasn’t all that surprised.
“You never know what goes through people’s heads,” he said. “It’s tragic, you know. I feel sorry for the baby, that’s the worst thing.”
