Golf committee may change; Ottumwa council meets Monday
BY CINDY TOOPES COURIER STAFF WRITER
OTTUMWA — If the City Council approves, the current Golf Course Advisory Committee will soon be history and a new committee will take its place.
In his Thursday memo to the mayor and council members, City Administrator Joe Helfenberger recommended the council disband the current committee and create a new one that “will follow the same notice requirements and keep the same record of minutes of their meetings as every other city committee, commission and board.”
The golf committee item is listed as a work session topic and may or may not be voted on when the council meets at 5 p.m. Monday.
The other work session item is “review and possible selection” of proposals to analyze Ottumwa Fire Department’s service.
In his memo to the council, Helfenberger said he has received proposals from these companies: George Oster and Associates, Ames; The Ludwig Group, Hillsboro, Mo.; Emergency Services Consulting, Wilsonville, Ore., and Global Public Safety Solutions, Fairfax, Va.
The following are also on Monday’s agenda and most likely will be voted on:
• A cooperation agreement between local and federal authorities to authorize the Department of the Army to assist in the repair or restoration of flood control improvements that have been threatened or destroyed by flooding.
• A resolution opposing any increase in electrical rates for Alliant Energy in Wapello County.
• Establishing a K-9 program in Ottumwa Police department and authorize appropriate fundraising efforts as needed.
• Acknowledging the Ottumwa Civil Service Commission entrance eligibility list for a police officer.
