Centerville man accused of attempted murder

CENTERVILLE — Police in Centerville found a stabbing victim just after midnight Tuesday, and say they found his assailant later in the day.

Corey Dwayne Short, 26, Centerville, is charged with attempted murder, burglary, willful injury, going armed with intent and domestic abuse. He is being held in the Appanoose County Jail on $50,000 bond.

Officers in Centerville responded at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday to reports of a male in the 400 block of 18th Street yelling for help. They found the man, whose name has not been released, suffering from multiple wounds. He was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.

The police investigation led them to Short, who was arrested later in the day. All charges except for domestic abuse are felonies. Short could face as much as 60 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
