Miller-Meeks seeks rematch against Loebsack

OTTUMWA — Marianette Miller-Meeks is looking for a 2010 rematch against Rep. Dave Loebsack.

Miller-Meeks was something of a surprise winner in the 2008 Republica primary against two other candidates. Many observers had expected Peter Teahen, a well-known Cedar Rapids funeral home director, to win. Cedar Rapids is within the largest concentrations of voters in Iowa’s Second Congressional District.

Miller-Meeks, an ophthalmologist, based much of her campaign on the fact she is not from Cedar Rapids or Iowa City, Loebsack’s home area and also the home of longtime Rep. Jim Leach. She polled well in much of the district but lost to Loebsack in the general election.

The formal kickoff for Miller-Meeks’ second campaign is Monday, with stops in Muscatine, Marion and West Burlington. The day concludes with a 7:15 p.m. stop in Ottumwa at Al-Jon Manufacturing, 14599 Second Ave.

Miller-Meeks is the second Republican to formally announce a candidacy for the second district. Christopher Reed did so several weeks ago and has begun his own series of campaign visits around the district.
