OTTUMWA — Two power outages hit more than 650 Alliant Energy customers in Ottumwa Wednesday night.
At 6:21 p.m., the Green Street substation experienced a faulty line, knocking out power to 558 customers. Crews responded and restored power by 8:21 p.m.
"We're not sure what caused that, it just gave out," said Alliant Energy spokesperson Ryan Stensland. "It could have been damage from a previous storm, it could have been animals at one point."
Another power outage hit at 6:48 p.m. when a contractor hit an underground line at 205 E. Main St., affecting nearly 100 customers.
Crews also responded, and Stensland said they would be working throughout the night until it was fixed. He hoped power would be restored by 11 p.m.
