Shutdown hits Oktoberfest parade band

---- — OTTUMWA --- An Army National Guard officer says Wapello County will see another loss due to the federal shutdown.

"The 34th Army Band will not be performing Saturday," said Col. Greg Hapgood, the public affairs officer for the Iowa Army National Guard, as well as a U.S. Army spokesman for the state. "The Department of Defense said, 'No' due to the shutdown."

Hapgood said he saw the news release sent by the Guard published in the Courier, it stated the band would attend Oktoberfest. The DOD also heard about it, he said, and sent word of their decision.

"We do feel bad about this," Hapgood said.

The 34th Army Band, Iowa Army National Guard, is based in Fairfield.
