FARMINGTON — The city of Farmington has filed petition against Nichole Jarvis for her responsibility in city losses while she was city clerk.
The city alleged it was the insured under a special government crime coverage policy by EMCC and that Jarvis was city clerk for the city of Farmington. The suit also alleges that the State Auditor’s Office released a report on July 29, on a special investigation of the city of Farmington, that Jarvis was responsible for a total loss to the city of $247,000. The suit alleges that on July 22, the state of Iowa filed criminal charges against Jarvis based, in part, on the findings of the state auditor’s report. That case is pending.
The suit alleges that on Aug. 20, under the terms of the insurance policy, EMCC paid the city the sum of $100,000 for the losses the city sustained as a result of the defendant’s conduct and that EMCC paid the city $9,814 connected with its auditing expense.
The suit alleges that the city of Farmington’s total loss was $256,814. The suit alleges that the city’s loss was directly caused by the “wrongful, intentional conduct of Jarvis and is, therefore, entitled to be reimbursed by Jarvis ...” The city requests a judgment against Jarvis for $256,814.
