OTTUMWA — The public is invited to an informational meeting about the upcoming Flood Protection and Mitigation Project in Ottumwa's west side. The project consists of the installation of large diameter stormwater drainage pipe from Gateway Drive to McLean Street and then from Main Street to McPherson Avenue.
The meeting will be at 5 p.m. Monday at Westgate Towers, 910 W. Second St. in Ottumwa.
The meeting is for sharing information with the community about the project's construction schedule, work zone traffic changes and street closings, impacts of the project on the neighborhood and other public improvements. The meeting is open to the public; residents and businesses in the project area are especially invited to attend.
This project is being funded with a $16.2 million federal grant with the goal of reducing the risk of flooding in Ottumwa's west side and along Gateway Drive. The project will be completed in three phases and includes the installation of a 96-inch diameter storm water pipe and construction of a flood wall around the Ottumwa Water and Hydro plant.
