OTTUMWA — Thanks to a national grassroots screening tour of the film Bringing it Home, Ottumwans will get a chance to see the film and learn more about the hemp industry.
The Green Street Hall Mall, located on Green Street between Second and Fourth streets, will be partnering with the Iowa Hemp Education Coalition to host a free showing of the film at 1 p.m. Nov. 23.
The film, which is a 52-minute documentary, focuses on the American hemp industry and reintroduces Americans with a crop that helped build the nation. Brian Littlejohn, one of the organizers who is in charge of bringing the film to Ottumwa, is excited to help interest in the community grow with hemp products.
“It’s an opportunity for me to bring it forward to the people,” he said.
Filmmakers Linda Booker and Blaire Johnson are hoping their movie helps to magnify dialogue and legislative action about hemp. Donations will be accepted at the film showing, and informational pamphlets and handouts about the modern hemp industry will be distributed.
