Seizure of 33 pounds of meth lands 4 in hot water

---- — OTTUMWA — A meth investigation lasting more than a year in southeast Iowa finally ended with a seizure of 33 pounds of meth and four arrests.

During the course of the investigation, officers conducted more than 20 controlled purchases of methamphetamine from numerous offenders.

On Saturday, June 15, officers seized approximately 33 pounds of meth.

On Wednesday, officers executed federal search warrants at 122 N. James St., 328 S. Tacoma Ave. and 122 W. Tenth St. N #1 in Newton, and seized controlled substances, cash and assets.

As a result, four people were arrested: Michael McManus Jr., 35, 328 S. Tacoma Ave.; Terry Lee Young, 58, 122 N. James St.; Brian Lee Carmer, 35, of Newton; and Juan Hernandez-Huerta, 25, of Ottumwa.

All four were charged in U.S District Court, Southern District of Iowa with conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine. The investigation is ongoing, and a number of other arrests are forthcoming.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Iowa Department of Public Safety Division of Intelligence, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Ottumwa Police Department and Southeast Iowa Inter-Agency Drug Task Force all participated in the investigation.
