Police seek data about stabbing

---- — OTTUMWA --- Police investigators are still trying to work out details of what happened in a stabbing at the end of last week.

Ottumwa Police Lieutenant Jason Bell said the victim was cut, and that there had been someone else involved. But because it's still under investigation, police are not releasing many details. It's a tougher case than usual, Bell said, because the victim is not willing to talk to police about the attack.

"Anybody who may have information regarding that assault is encouraged to contact the OPD investigation department," Bell told the Courier.

Here's the details they did release: Around noon Friday, the Ottumwa Police Department received a 911 call reporting an assault in the 100 Block of South Iowa Ave. They found the victim, who had sustained a single stab wound during the assault. The victim has now been identified as Fontan Walker, age 21, of 146 South Iowa Ave. A police sergeant told the Courier that the victim was treated more as a precautionary measure.

"The investigation into the incident is ongoing," said a written statement from police, "however Walker is refusing to cooperate with the investigation."

Lt. Bell said Monday that due to the nature of the incident, police feel there is no danger to the general public.
