Centerville man killed in motorcycle accident

CENTERVILLE — A Centerville man is dead following a motorcycle accident Friday afternoon.

At approximately 3:36 p.m. Friday, Donald Lee Bates, 63, was heading southbound on Iowa Highway 5, just south of its intersection with County Highway J29, when his motorcycle left the road and went onto the shoulder.

He lost control of the motorcycle and it flipped onto its side, sliding down the road and coming to rest in the southbound lane.

Bates, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and killed.

The accident is currently under investigation.
