OTTUMWA — A jury of 14 has been chosen to hear the case of an Ottumwa man accused of murdering the manager of a downtown adult shop.
Bruce Darnell Pollard, 26, is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery in the death of Cinema X Theater manager Kenneth McDaniel. His body was found in the store on March 13, 2012.
All day Tuesday, prosecutors and Pollard's defense team questioned jurors until selecting the final 14, two of whom are alternates. The jury is comprised of four women and 10 men.
The trial will resume at 9 a.m. today at the Wapello County Courthouse.
Pollard has confessed to the murder, therefore his attorneys have filed an affirmative defense, pleading temporary insanity at the time of the murder.
Former Ottumwa Police Chief Jim Clark previously said autopsy results show McDaniel was killed by “blunt force injuries to the head and neck [combined with possible] strangulation.”
Pollard has also been charged in the Sonic restaurant and Jefferson Street BP armed robberies on March 12, 2012, and March 15, 2012, respectively. A verdict will not be handed down in these two cases during this trial, though.
