Ottumwa escapee sought

OTTUMWA — Authorities are looking for a man who escaped from a work release facility in Ottumwa.

The Iowa Department of Corrections said in a news release Monday that 36-year-old Donald Shawn Fountain was placed on escape status after he failed to return to the facility from employment on Saturday.

Fountain transferred to work release in September. He has been serving a five-year sentence that began in July 2012 for willful injury causing bodily injury.

Fountain has a long prior record, including charges of burglary, which were dropped when he reached a plea bargain, assault causing bodily injury, trespassing, and disorderly conduct.

Authorities say any information to Fountain's whereabouts should be reported to the Ottumwa Police Department at (641) 683-0661 or the Wapello County Sheriff's Department (641) 684-4350.
