CENTERVILLE — A Centerville man has been arrested on five charges of arson.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Kevin Wade Powers, 23, was arrested at the Centerville Law Center and charged with three counts of first-degree arson (a Class "B" felony) and two counts of second-degree arson (a Class "C" felony).
The charges stem from an ongoing investigation by the Centerville Police Department into the multiple arson fires that have been set in the square area.
The investigation began Aug. 23 at approximately 12:11 a.m., when the police responded to the report of a truck on fire in the 100 block of West Washington Street. At approximately 11:46 p.m. Sept. 13, they department responded to another truck on fire in the 100 block of West Washington Street. On Sept. 15 at approximately 2:09 a.m., police responded to the report of a couch on fire in the alley behind the businesses in the 300 block of North 12th Street. At approximately 9:29 p.m. Sept. 25, the department responded to a trash fire in the alley behind the businesses in the 300 block of North 12th Street.
Powers is being held in the Appanoose County Jail with no bond pending his initial appearance with the Appanoose County Magistrate.
