---- — OTTUMWA — Police have confirmed a stabbing at a residence in downtown Ottumwa.
Around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Ottumwa Police Department received a 911 call about a disturbance at 101 S. Market St. Upon arrival, officers determined that a subject had been assaulted and stabbed with a knife.
Police have identified the victim as Kaz Christopher Long, 28, of 101 S. Market St., Apt. 503. Long was transported to Ottumwa Regional Hospital. A neighbor said Long is an attorney with the Iowa Public Defender's Office.
A call to the police department Thursday morning resulted in a press release, in which the OPD reports that as the result of an investigation, Ashley Nicole Weir, 28, also of 101 S. Market St., Apt. 503, was charged with aggravated domestic abuse and willful injury (Class C Felony). Weir is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on $10,000 bond.
Thursday evening, someone familiar with the case said Long is presently in stable condition.
