---- — OTTUMWA — The Wapello County Foundation has released its 2013 list of grant recipients, and over $200,000 has been given to 22 organizations.

Since 1981, WCF has provided assistance to 501(c) groups to complete projects they might not otherwise be able to afford. Steven Martin, senior vice president and senior trust officer at South Ottumwa Savings Bank says President Richard C. Bauerle and the WCF board continue to look for ways to benefit the community groups around them.

"If you look at the grants this year, they cover the spectrum," Martin said. "People understand that between the Wapello County Foundation and the Legacy Foundation, they're working hard to get their projects going. The positive things is that they're being supported and able to accomplish (their goals)."

This year, many groups in Ottumwa, Eldon, Eddyville and Blakesburg will be receiving grant money. Ranging in category from scholarship and classroom equipment to emergency warning systems and new roofs, the organizations will now be able to proceed in ways they couldn't before.

"The equipment we'll be able to purchase with these funds will give us more opportunity to preserve what we have, get more pieces on loan and give us the opportunity to get more of our own items for display," American Gothic House Center Administrator Holly Berg said.

This is the 25th consecutive year of grants by the foundation, and this year's funds bring the grant total to $2.2 million.
