OTTUMWA — Drivers will need to make some adjustments Thursday when the Jefferson Street Viaduct closes for maintenance.
The closure will allow crews to clean the expansion joints on the bridge. This is part of the routine maintenance of the structure. Work is expected to begin about 8 a.m. and, if weather allows, should be completed by the afternoon.
The viaduct is an Ottumwa landmark, first opening to traffic in 1936. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
