Hedrick teen missing

OTTUMWA — A 13-year-old Hedrick girl has been reported missing.

Hunter Kopp, 13, was last seen leaving the Hedrick area (her hometown) around 6 p.m. Monday. Kopp is a white female, 130 pounds, 5-feet-7-inches, with shoulder-length brown hair and blue eyes. She is a student at Pekin Middle School in Packwood.

Keokuk County Sheriff Deputy Jeff Runnells said he took the missing persons report from her father, David, Tuesday morning, entering it into the national database.

"I filed a subpoena with U.S. Cellular and was able to get a ping off of her phone and it was in the Ottumwa area ... at 9:25 Tuesday morning," Runnells said. "Other than that we don't have a lot. I'm assuming she's with some boyfriend but she's not answering her phone and we don't have a clue where she's at, but we're pretty sure she's in the Ottumwa area."

Runnells said the girl packed a bag Monday night, sat it outside her bedroom window and said she was going for a walk, but never returned.

She was last seen wearing blue jeans, a printed T-shirt and a Pittsburgh Steelers baseball hat.

Ottumwa Police Chief Tom McAndrew said dispatch also received the missing person report and Ottumwa police have been in contact with Kopp's parents and are checking addresses around town.

"We just talk to the parents," McAndrew said of the process to locate a missing child. "They called us and let us know where they think she might be hanging out at and we just check addresses. That's about all we can do. We don't have ... a search party or anything like that going on. We don't know what the circumstances are, other than a parent called and thought they knew who she might be with and where she was hanging out at."

Anyone with information on Kopp's whereabouts are asked to call the Keokuk County Sheriff's Office at 641-622-2727 or the Ottumwa Police Department at 641-683-0661.
